P20 Plastic Mold Steel for Injection Molds and Mold Bases
P20 plastic mold steel is a low-alloy mold steel grade for plastic
injection molds, mould bases, cavities, cores and die holders.
Therefore, mold makers choose P20 when they need a practical balance of
easy machining, toughness, surface finish and steady service life.

Where P20 Plastic Mold Steel Fits
P20 is commonly supplied in pre-hardened condition. As a result, mold
makers can often machine the cavity or mould base without a separate
hardening cycle after machining.
This helps reduce production time and lowers the risk of distortion
after machining. In addition, P20 supports good surface finish for many
plastic parts.
When to Compare Other Grades
For larger molds that need more uniform through-hardness, compare P20
with P20+Ni or DIN 1.2738. However, if the application involves hot die
casting or forging, review H13 Hot Work Tool Steel.
If the tool must cut, punch or resist abrasive wear in cold work
conditions, compare P20 with D2 Cold Work Tool Steel.
